Why Bamboo Is The Better Choice For Baby Clothing Over Cotton

Why Bamboo is the Better choice for baby clothing over cotton

If you have followed Simply Life for a while, you will notice that our products are made with 95% viscose from bamboo (a much higher percentage as compared to the conventional 70%!). From baby to toddler pieces, to swaddle blankets to bodysuits. Why use bamboo instead of cotton for baby clothing?

We all want our babies to be safe, comfortable and happy, and undoubtedly the most important thing we have to ensure the quality of is the fabric next to their delicate skin. Not only is bamboo fabric sustainable, it is also luxuriously soft and cool in sunny Singapore’s tropical climate! We break down more reasons why bamboo fabric is the best choice for baby clothing.

Why choose bamboo fabrics for babies

Luxuriously Soft

Bamboo is the softest fabric you can find for your baby’s clothing. The softer the fabric, the more comfortable and soothing it is on your baby’s sensitive skin.

Viscose from bamboo has been compared to some of the most luxurious fabrics like Egytian cotton, silk or cashmere. For a fraction of the price, bamboo fabric provides your babies with just the same silky softness!

As bamboo fibres are without chemical treatment, bamboo is also naturally smoother and rounder with no sharp spurs to irritate the skin, making bamboo fabric hypoallergenic and more suitable than cotton for those with skin irritation or allergic reactions.

Naturally Thermoregulating

The joy of bamboo clothing goes beyond the softness. It is the breathability and thermoregulating properties of bamboo that deliver such amazing comfort to your babies.

As the cross-section of the bamboo fibre is covered with micro-gaps, it allows for much better ventilation, keeping your babies and toddlers cool in the heat, and warm in cold conditions!

This is compared to cotton which retains more heat than bamboo, and can get much more expensive at higher thread counts for cotton fabric to be more breathable.

Powerfully Absorbent and moisture-wicking

Bamboo is 40% more absorbent than even the finest organic cotton, wicking moisture away from the skin and keeping you feeling dry and comfortable! This makes bamboo the perfect choice for our babies’ and toddlers’ clothing, pyjamas and even bedding, especially in Singapore’s humid, tropical climate.

We don’t want our babies feeling sticky and sweaty while running around and enjoying themselves!

Odour-free and moisture wicking

Another reason why bamboo is the better option than cotton is the innate anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of bamboo plants are carried over into its textile form.

This is due to the anti-bacteria bio-agent in bamboo known as “Bamboo Kun”, which reduces bacteria that thrives on clothing and skin, keeping the clothing smelling fresh and more healthy and hygienic for longer!

Stronger & more durable than cotton

Sturdy and resilient, bamboo has traditionally been used in the construction of homes and bridges. This durability translates into fabric made from bamboo viscose, which will keep its shape and strength far longer than cotton!

Bamboo fibres also require less dye than that of cotton for colouration, and are able to keep their vibrant colours significantly longer. That means your favourite baby rompers and sleepsuits will last through spit-ups, diaper accidents and multiple washes!

On top of these, bamboo uses ⅓ less water than cotton to grow, is a renewable resource and has an incredible growth rate, and is a much more sustainable fabric than cotton.

Are you convinced? After years of producing baby and toddler clothing made of bamboo fibre, we are confident that our products are well-designed to bring the highest quality and comfort to your little ones!
